What is Vision?
Vision is a mental picture of the future. A future that is yet to happen. It is an idea of what the future can hold but has not yet happened. Most people in life have exhibited vision from time to time, people as Thomas Edison, who failed some 10,000 times before successfully inventing the light bulb that is in use today. Even Oprah Winfrey Oprah Winfrey, at the age of 22, was fired from her job as a television reporter because she was ‘unfit for TV.” and a whole lot of others. But they have a single thing that keeps them going, and that is Vision. Vision embodies our hopes and ideas. It guides us inside and creates a desire in us for growth and improvement. It brings us flashes and glimpses of what is possible in life. Part of the things we do in our businesses or organisations are being powered by vision. When you dream of growing your business, it is a vision that is powering you to do so.
Vision is when architects dream of new buildings and designs. Or when business people dream of growing their business.
So why is Vision important in Leadership?
1) Vision shows us where we are headed.
Vision helps a leader prepare for the future and helps create a plan for the leader to follow. The future is not always known, but through Vision, a leader stays on the course since vision provides a clear direction during rocky times or unexpected setbacks. A definite direction and plan for success in your business is one of the most valuable things you can have, so don’t make the mistake of not having any at all.
2) Vision provides motivation.
Motivation is needed in any leadership. With motivation, a lot can be accomplished by leadership. The leader will not care much about obstacles and problems on his way to lead, but instead, the vision will create a path strong enough to carry them through to the end.

3) Visions create pathways through obstacles.
When a leader has a strong vision, they will make every little setback and obstacle on their way seem small. They will work through them and persevere to the end, learning as they go. Vision helps leaders persevere.
4) Vision provides focus.
Focus is a very important factor in the life of any leader. With all life’s distractions, a leader needs focus to accomplish whatever they had in mind to do. With vision, focus is guaranteed. As a leader, acting on your vision will provide you with the needed focus to accomplish your goals easily. In the world of today, when everything is seeking attention, vision helps leaders to stay on the things that matter most and not be caught up on mundane things.
5) Vision gives us meaning and purpose to what we do.
For every leader having a vision will help a leader to see the end of the road in whatever they are planning or doing. It will give the leader the reasons why they’re doing whatever they are doing. When a leader knows why they’re doing what they’re doing, it will give them more reasons to keep engaging in the activity. Vision helps in that aspect a lot.
